Remembering Jean Stapleton

We mourn the loss of Jean Stapleton, aptly described as Bunker’s Better Angel in The New York Times obituary. Everyone who knew her knows that Jean was smart, compassionate and dedicated to her colleagues. Her service on our Western Council and Board of Trustees helped advance the work of The Fund in Los Angeles and across the country. In New York City, at the end of Jean’s Special Benefit Performance of Bon Appétit!, her one person musical about Julia Child, she noted she was “proud to be among the ingredients which make The Fund so good.” We’re proud too. Thank you, Jean.

Special thanks to her family, who has asked that contributions in Jean’s memory be made to The Fund. Click here to celebrate a loved one, friend, fellow colleague or the opening night of a show. Your thoughtful gift will be listed in our online Annual Report, and we’ll send a special letter to the person being honored or the family of the deceased.

LA PRIDE 2013: Thank you Christopher Street West!

Palm View residents celebrated in early June at LA Pride 2013 in West Hollywood, thanks to our friends at Christopher Street West who provided free access to the celebration grounds for our community! The Palm View’s 40-units provide homes to low-income people with HIV/AIDS.

The party continued across the country with the recent Supreme Court rulings on DOMA and Prop 8. The Fund’s HIV/AIDS Initiative is proud to serve everyone in our entertainment community, and this quote from one of our clients perhaps says it best:

“I got to view the first black president and same gender equality. I can be married now! Thank you for helping me be alive to see these two moments of my life. I am the happiest person in the world, because I get to see things now that were unheard of. I’m supposed to be dead. That’s what The Actors Fund has given to me.”
