Celebrating The Schermerhorn & The Actors Fund Arts Center
On October 25, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined our Chairman Brian Stokes Mitchell, government officials and our building co-sponsors, Common Ground, to celebrate The Schermerhorn, our affordable, supportive housing residence in Downtown Brooklyn that provides 216 units of housing for people in arts and entertainment, as well as the formerly homeless and those living with HIV/AIDS. The ribbon-cutting festivities included the opening of the new state-of-the-art, 2,000 square foot Actors Fund Arts Center, as well as performances by the Brooklyn Ballet and our incredible Schermerhorn residents. Watch video highlights, view photos from the event, or read our blog for background on the building. Congratulations to everyone at The Schermerhorn!

Variety Mentors Looking Ahead “Junior Journos”
Kids on Looking Ahead's newsletter committee are getting a taste for journalism from some of the best in the biz. Five of them recently authored columns for Variety's October 21 “Youth Impact Report,“ by interviewing Christina Ricci, Snoop Dogg's daughter Cori, and Switched at Birth creator Lizzy Weiss.
Variety's senior film critic and features editor Peter Debruge and executive editor Steven Gaydos created the section in 2009 to help mentor the young scribes. Way to go, guys! And shout out to Variety's publisher Brian Gott for his enthusiastic support of Looking Ahead!
