Facing Homelessness - Los Angeles

Whether you are facing foreclosure or eviction or are currently homeless, Los Angeles County has programs to help prevent homelessness or transition back to independent living.

People Assisting the Homeless (PATH)
PATH is a comprehensive social services agency for the homeless, offering transitional living and emergency shelter beds, and other services. The PATH Mall offers 20 free onsite social service providers, including:

  • case management
  • a job center
  • mental health and substance abuse services
  • legal advocacy
  • a beauty salon

To access their services, come for an initial intake to the PATH building at 340 North Madison Avenue, Los Angeles. The office opens at 7:30am, but we recommend arriving early as lines start to form by 6am. They only guarantee seeing 10 people per day. Please bring your ID and proof of income.

I Hate My Life
Despite its provocative title, this site is a comprehensive collection of resources for people facing homelessness or who are currently homeless, compiled by an individual in Los Angeles who used many of these resources during the time he was homeless. Resources include:

  • shelters
  • low-cost housing
  • medical clinics
  • job placement services
  • food banks

Los Angeles Family Housing (LAFH)
LAFH is an organization in North Hollywood that refers families and individuals to on- or off-site emergency shelters, transitional living facilities and support for permanent affordable housing. In addition, LAFH offers case management and food resources. Walk-in intakes are from 1011am on the first and third Thursday of each month.

211 LA County Helpline
In addition, 211 LA County Helpline can be accessed by dialing 211 from any telephone. An operator can refer you to additional resources including food banks, legal aid, local social services, as well as shelters.
