Managing Pain without Medications (NY)

Pain is something that has been discussed and studied throughout the ages, but is often still a mystery to those who suffer from it and try to treat it. This lecture will go into some of the common causes of pain, particularly neck, lower back and joint pain, and how it can be treated. Treatment ranges from risk factors we can eliminate to exercises that can help keep pain away. While the focus will be on non-pharmacologic management, we will discuss medications as well. There will also be time for discussion.

Presenter: Dr. Niall Monaghan graduated from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical College in Brooklyn. Following an Internal Medicine internship at Lenox Hill Hospital, he completed a residency at New York Presbyterian Cornell/Columbia in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation where he served as chief resident, and a fellowship in Pain Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. He has an interest in musculoskeletal health, sports medicine, interventional pain management, and utilizing physical therapy and minimalizing pharmacologic treatment modalities. He uses a holistic approach for the treatment of pain and sports injuries.
